The Beastie Boys aren't the only Jewish musicians who have recently been accused of ripping off other artists. According to the Jewish Blogmiester, Jewish music powerhouse Yehuda! (exclamation point definitely not ours) may have stolen his song "Umacha" from Chris De Burgh. Who? Don't you know your '80's art-rockers-cum-balladeers? De Burgh wrote "Lady in Red," still a Bar and Bat Mitzvah slow-dance special. As for Yehuda!, if you're trying to place him, just know that he's the guy who made "Dovid Melech" a hit.
Blog in DM has the original post, plus a fairly interesting discussion about the difference between borrowing and stealing in folk music. And yes, we know this item is a mite more obscure than the Beastie Boys story. We just think good old-fashioned plagiarism is a hundred times more interesting than the Beasties' alleged failure to follow proper sampling licensing procedure.
