Kinky Friedman is now $45, 612 richer thanks to a lucrative gambling outing in the Big Easy over the weekend. The Jewish cowboy/professional Texan cashed in at Harrah's, according to wire reports.

But Friedman, who plans to run for Texas governor (and will legalize gambling in the state should he win), doesn't plan to use his winnings to buoy his 2006 campaign. On the contrary. Friedman says he plans to donate the cash to a good cause: a leper colony for unwed mothers in Hawaii.

Friedman also promises to outlaw the declawing of cats and appoint Willie Nelson as head of the Texas Rangers. It's refreshing to see a Texas politician with his priorities and sense of humor firmly in place--not to mention making campaign promises he'll undoubtedly keep.
