On the cover of Danny Cohen's new album, We're All Gunna Die, a bearded fellow plucks the strings of an acoustic guitar in a Jewish cemetery. The album's name is listed as an epitaph on the tombstone behind him, which also bears a Star of David. Cohen was discovered by Tom Waits; Blogcritics compares him to "Dylan at his most uncomfortably nasal." Whatever other giant shoulders he might be standing upon, Danny Cohen reminds us most of another Cohen: Leonard. Danny's voice has more gravel in it, but like Leonard, he recognizes the connection between Jewish melancholy and singer-songwriter sadness.
