This week’s Village Voice music section has articles about not one but two newly relevant Jewish rock stars of ages past. George Smith’s round-up of glammy new releases ends with an endorsement of T. Rex’s Born to Boogie, now out on DVD and CD. The live album, Smith says, “sets up Bolan's quartet as way more thundering and jammy hard rock than the studio LPs let on.” Meanwhile, Jason Gross reviews a recent show by reunited seventies power-pop trio the Raspberries, headed by “buff-looking” MOT Eric Carmen. You might remember Carmen from another, less hip incarnation: between Raspberries then and Raspberries now, he was the author of such gooey power ballads as “Hungry Eyes” and the immortal “All By Myself.”
