# Unnecessary exclamation marks: bad for the Jews.

The Beastie Boys aren't the only Jewish musicians who have recently been accused of ripping off other artists. According to the [Jewish Blogmiester](http://jewishmuzic.blogspot.com/2005/06/ripping-off-on-jewish-music-scene.html?ref=jewsrock.org), Jewish music powerhouse [Yehuda!](http://www.yehuda.org/?ref=jewsrock.org) (exclamation point definitely not ours) may have stolen his song "Umacha" from Chris De Burgh. Who? Don't you know your '80's art-rockers-cum-balladeers? De Burgh wrote "Lady in Red," still a Bar and Bat Mitzvah slow-dance special. As for Yehuda!, if you're trying to place him, just know that he's the guy who made "Dovid Melech" a hit.

[Blog in DM](http://blogindm.blogspot.com/2005%5F06%5F01%5Fblogindm%5Farchive.html?ref=jewsrock.org#111929153870567480) has the original post, plus a fairly interesting discussion about the difference between borrowing and stealing in folk music. And yes, we know this item is a mite more obscure than the [Beastie Boys story](http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20050613/ap%5Fen%5Fbu/scotus%5Fbeastie%5Fboys;%5Fylt=Apzapioinh5BbAAVQEncNu9xFb8C;%5Fylu=X3oDMTBiMW04NW9mBHNlYwMlJVRPUCUl?ref=jewsrock.org). We just think good old-fashioned plagiarism is a hundred times more interesting than the Beasties' alleged failure to follow proper sampling licensing procedure.
